The same people I publicly shamed on Facebook for making excuses for George Zimmerman are still on the bandwagon, which I find morally repulsive.
What is the deal with these people? Are they so removed from reality that they want to believe that Zimmerman is still innocent no matter how many times he gets arrested for the same thing – a short temper and gun violence against and unarmed child and at least three different women?
Let’s be clear, Zimmerman racially profiled a teenage boy, Trayvon Martin. Then he stalked him from his vehicle while police dispatch told him to leave the boy alone. Trayvon Martin attacked Zimmerman when he emerged from the vehicle and aggressively began questioning him. Zimmerman shot Trayvon dead at close range. The question in the jury room had nothing to do with whether or not Zimmerman was innocent or guilty of manslaughter or negligent homicide. The problem was that the prosecutors charged him with a hate crime, which they could not believe beyond reasonable doubt.
However, on my Facebook feed, there were tons of apologists saying reverse racism was used to unfairly charge Zimmerman with a hate murder when he was exercising his right to protect himself.
Since then, Zimmerman supposedly held his ex-wife at gunpoint shortly after she filed for divorce. And the apologists said she must be exaggerating in order to ride on the fame of the Martin case and to increase her share in the pending divorce case.
And now, we have him pointing a shotgun at his new, pregnant girlfriend (likely an apologist, because how else would such human scum be dating someone?). When the police came, he pushed the woman out of the house they share and barricaded the door with furniture.
What are the apologists saying now? They are claiming that Zimmerman is living under a microscope and people are taking advantage of his reputation to milk him for all he’s worth. At this point, I have to just throw my hands up.
I can’t understand why people can’t realize what is evident by now. Zimmerman is a violent man, a liar, and a gun wielder who isn’t afraid to discharge if it suits him.
And what now for Zimmerman? He was already released after agreeing to give up his guns and wear an electronic device. What a complete joke of justice.
Samantha Scheibe, Zimmerman’s pregnant girlfriend, said there was a domestic abuse incident a week and a half ago that involved him choking her. In her 911 call, she told the dispatcher, “He’s in my house, breaking all my shit because I asked him to leave. He’s got a freaking gun breaking all my stuff right now.” He, however, is maintaining his innocence. And why not, he’s gotten away with murder before.
The cops, George Zimmerman, the lawyers, the jury, and all the apologists make me feel ill. In what situation would a man get away with domestic abuse on three accounts, battery against a police officer, and manslaughter of a boy and still have a cult of people behind him claiming his innocence.
That situation is the current situation we have in the United States, where the word of an “upstanding,” straight male is taken as gospel. The murder of a black “hooligan” was likely justified in self-defense. The women who were domestically abused probably made it up because they’ve gone “crazy” [that was the actual description taken from Zimmerman when he talked to a dispatcher]. It’s the type of world where if you believe that this type of incident should spark a discussion of race relations in the U.S. you are a reverse racist, and if you apologize for Zimmerman, you are a hero of justice.
You know, a 1984 type world of double-speak.
Zimmerman and his apologists should be ashamed. But they are not. They don’t have to be; he’s obviously innocent, and they’re obviously right.
